Nurlan Smagulov: “Our mission is to develop small and medium businesses around our car plants”
As part of the Forum, the capital is hosting Kazakhstan Machinery Fair 2023, an international machine building and metalworking exhibition, where more than 250 exhibitors from Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Israel, Canada, China, Turkey and other countries are represented. Automakers from Kazakhstan participating in the Forum include Astana Motors, which has presented commercial vehicles and passenger cars made by its subsidiaries, Hyundai Trans Almaty and Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan, as well as cars of Chinese brands, which the company plans to produce at its multi-brand plant under construction in Almaty.

The government and mechanical engineering professionals are discussing such key topics as localization, the introduction of new technologies and export promotion.
“We have a mission of increasing the competitiveness of machine-building enterprises by creating affordable financial instruments, introducing new technologies, increasing local content and promoting exports,” said Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.
The head of the government also emphasized the role of industrialization in the development of small and medium businesses, as well as in the training of qualified mechanical engineering personnel.
The founder of Astana Motors, Nurlan Smagulov, in turn, announced the company’s plans for forming a technology cluster in Kazakhstan to develop the economy.
“We see and highly appreciate the strategic role of the Government in the development of the mechanical engineering industry and are investing in the industrialization of our country. Our mission is to develop small and medium businesses around our car plants. Instead of producing car components ourselves, we should provide small and medium businesses with orders and technologies. We have set up CKD production of cars, we are deepening localization, arranging the production of car components and developing the cluster economy,” said Nurlan Smagulov.

During an official visit to the automobile exhibition, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, could also see a Hyundai Staria ambulance vehicle made in Kazakhstan by the Almaty-based Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan plant.

The vehicle meets the technical regulations of the Customs Union, requirements of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan for passenger vehicles and the Euro 5 emission standards.
The Forum of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan is organized by the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Union of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
